This weekend in the city of Cartagena the famous Baroque market will fill the streets of the Roman city. If you have never been to see it, there is no better time to do so.

With an exhibition of swordsmanship with Basque and Biscayan swords, in which two soldiers of the Third Lombardy have faced each other on the steps of the Consistorial Palace, the presentation of the Baroque Market of Cartagena, which will open on November 3RD at 12:30 hours the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and will continue until Sunday 5TH. An event that “will delay the time clock in the streets of Cartagena to the seventeenth century and seeks social integration, through knowledge of different cultures” as explained by the Councilor for Social Services, Carmen Martín, who has appeared with the director of Piramide Art, Soledad Pérez.

Throughout the weekend, those who go along to enjoy this vintage market can enjoy plays, soldier parades, dances, storytelling, mask parades, and many more activities by 5 dance, theater and children’s entertainment companies. It is worth highlighting the activity carried out by the Napoleonic Association of Valencia, of historical recreations, which will bring a Third of Lombardy formed by drum, captain and four soldiers who will cross the streets of the market and make a school of soldiers for the little ones. Turdión Músicos, Charon arabesques, Entre Juglares, Saltimpumqui and Disparatorio will also perform.

For the little ones there will also be didactic games, a puppet theater, makeup, mimes, magic games, a carousel, a carrousel and a boat.

This year, in order to better publicize the customs and personalities of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, two exhibitions will be installed. One of them will be a sample of costumes of that time that will be arranged into two tents in the Plaza de San Francisco, accompanied by furniture and explanatory panels. In the same installation there will be an exhibition of illustrative sheets on the biographies of the main painters and writers of the time.

As an activity parallel to the Baroque Market, a quick painting and artistic photography competitions, have also been organized and will be directed by Cristina San Pedro. The registration to both competitions can be done in a position located in the market. The quick painting competition will take place on Saturday, November 4th from 11:00am.

In addition, a meeting with different associations from Cartagena has been organized. There will also be another 16 workshops demonstrating traditional trades such as blacksmithing, macramé, leather, basketwork, baking or glass blowing.

Different information panels will also be installed along the route to allow people to know both the schedules and their location.

The market will be integrated by 120 crafts this year, food and hospitality stalls, of which 25 will be artisans from Cartagena. Between the posts there will be Galician, German and Arab taverns. The market will be located in San Diego Street, La Merced Square, Duque Street, Risueño Square, Serreta Street, San Ginés Square, Cuatro Santos Street, San Francisco Street and Plaza, and Palas Street.
