Celebrate the San Blas Pilgrimage in Santiago de la Ribera

The Pilgrimage of San Blas, as it is celebrated today, turns 40 and will celebrate with an intense festive weekend, from February 1st to 3rd.

It is a festivity that attracts thousands of people from all over the region and even from other municipalities in the Region every year. In fact, it is declared of tourist interest and has a great historical tradition behind it.

The devotion for the Saint San Blas is latent among all the residents of San Javier and that is what has kept alive the celebration of this festival year after year. So much so that there are even legends that attribute healing powers for illnesses of the throat.

According to tradition, you have to buy a clay figure of the saint so that it protects you all year round from throat diseases.

Next Friday, February 1st, the 2019 San Blas Pilgrimage will kick off with the pre-San Blas soiree, where you dance and have fun with the mobile disco that will be located in the forest of San Blas.

On Saturday, February 2nd is the official beginning of the San Blas Pilgrimage starting the celebrations with the day of “Migas” (a local meat and bread crumb dish). It is a day of coexistence in which you can enjoy a whole day surrounded by the best company and the best food from 2:30 p.m. Do not miss a great music event that will start at 12: 00h, where the music of several the groups invited to Blasrock 2019 will begin to play. After having a great time dancing and eating, the Flower Offering will take place in the chapel next to the forest at 4:30 p.m.

To put the perfect finishing touch to this festive event, it will finish in style with a concert from the band Powerband, who will make you enjoy, sing and dance from 9:00 p.m.

On Sunday, February 3rd, festivities continue with the feast of San Blas with the departure of the Pilgrimage that starts from the church of Santiago de la Ribera at 10:30 am and continues on the way to the hermitage in the area of San Blas. From San Javier, the Mar Menor Dance Choirs group will be in charge of cheering this pilgrimage with the best music and the best performance.

The little ones can also have fun during the festivities with a children’s play area where they will have their own play space available until 6:30 p.m. when the party will end.
