This weekend, 9th & 10th June, in Santiago de la Ribiera the air forces will be celebrating their academy´s 75th anniversary.

Do not miss the static exhibition of aircraft of the Armed Forces, the Infantry of Orleans Foundation and other national and international guests.

Be amazed with the power of the engines and the impossible manoeuvres that these aircraft are capable of doing at the controls of pilots with great value, precision, safety and the highest degree of preparation.

Throughout its history, the AGA (Academia General del Aire / General Air Academy) has trained generations of officers who have built the current Air Force, responding to the needs of the society they serve.

This is what the anniversary means: 75 years of fulfilling the mission; 75 years of teaching efforts, successes, efforts, hard work and pride symbolized by caps full of hope, enthusiasm and desire to serve Spain that, year after year since its foundation, in July each promotion of lieutenants launches into the Murcian sky; 75 years … “Lifting the flight”.

They have been training all Air Force officers for 75 years, making all of their pilots successful.

The history of the AGA goes back to 1926, in which naval aeronautics proposed its creation as an airship base due to its proximity to Cartagena and Los Alcázares aerodrome.

In 1939 the Air Force was created and initially the San Javier Air Base was used as a base for teaching in flight due to its excellent weather conditions.

In 1943, the General Air Academy was created, its mission being to train the future officers of the Air Force in the military, aeronautical, cultural-humanistic and physical aspects.

In 2007, military education was reformed with the creation of University Defense Centers, which allows students to obtain a double degree, a civilian as an industrial organization engineer and a military one. Since 2007 the AGA is a military center of higher education in which a university center is integrated.

The General Air Academy is also the base of the Eagle Patrol, whose pilots are also teachers of the basic flight school.

In terms of flight instruction, it is divided into three phases. In the elementary phase, which takes place in the third year, the students fly a propeller plane E-26 Tamiz where they are taught the most elementary part of the flight.

In the second phase, which takes place in the fourth year, the students fly a C-101 reactor identical to the one that the Eagle Patrol flies. This is the basic phase, where they learn instrumental flight, and it is decided who goes hunting, transport or helicopters. Courses that will be carried out during the fifth year of the Academy in Talavera la Real, Salamanca or Armilla respectively.
