Traditionally beginning on a Thursday and finishing the following Tuesday, carnival is celebrated in many Christian and non-Christian countries.

During carnival it is typical to see people dressed up, groups singing, parades and street parties. Throughout the World´s carnival celebrations there are many differences, however, the one thing they all have in common is a period of inclusivity and certain carnage.

Generally carnival is celebrated in Catholic countries and in some protestant countries but with distinct traditions, like the carnival of Denmark.

In the Region of Murcia, the most famous carnival is celebrated in Águilas, which is also one of the four most famous carnival celebrations in Spain.
